When Katie Michaelson speaks about music, it becomes quite clear that for her, ‘Music is life’. Her debut four-track EP “Swim (like a maniac)” has just been released and is attracting interest from major radio stations. Katie’s favourite artists include Sheryl Crow, Michelle Branch, Vanessa Carlton, Gwen Stefani and The Beatles, and there are elements of each that are present in the songs on her EP.
Katie started using a Maton EM325C a few years ago, and now also owns an EBG808CL Performer. She began singing at age 5, and has been songwriting and playing guitar live on stage since she was 16. More recently, Katie has been writing songs for her debut album, which is being recorded and produced by Ex-Southern Sons’ Reggie Bowman, while also performing an average of 4 gigs a week at various venues. Katie draws inspiration for her songs from personal life experiences, love, and politics or how things change, and says that she aims to give a positive message in her lyrics, while keeping the music fun.
In February 2005, Katie was announced as the global face of Innoxa’s new ‘Young Solution’ range. Managing Director of Innoxa Holdings Pty Ltd, Mr Chris McGibbon said: "Innoxa is thrilled to have Katie Michaelson come onboard as the face of Young Solution. She is an extremely talented young Australian singer who Innoxa is very proud to support."
This appointment followed her performance at the 4th Annual Musicoz Awards; televised nationally on the WIN network in December 2004, where she performed her debut single, Swim. This was also the night that Katie won the award for Best Pop Artist. Katie also appeared on the Today Show with Richard Wilkins with an acoustic performance of Swim.
Katie has high hopes for the future, with plans to be touring internationally, and playing to sold out arenas worldwide.
